Weird ebook prices

by Michael Connor

April 29, 2011

Australian book prices have long caused disputes and sent book buyers looking for bargains on the internet. The same thing now seems to be happening to ebooks.

Australian publishers Allen & Unwin have published the winning book in The Australian/Vogel competition as an ebook. You can buy the paperback from an Australian bookseller for  $27.99 or the  ebook for $19.59. Or you can buy it from Amazon Kindle for  $9.99 US.

Same story for another recently published Allen & Unwin book, The Simple Death by Michael Duffy. The paperback in Australia is $29.99 and the ebook is $25.49, while the Amazon Kindle price is $9.99 US.

Bizarre.

Disclosure: I bought a copy of The Simple Death from Kindle, and enjoyed it.
