I don't know what it is about Christmas that makes me think of gangster movies, but they do seem to go together quite nicely.
This may be a reflection upon my upbringing, so without further ado:
Miller's Crossing
One of the great gangster movies of all time. An intelligent, apparently slow-moving story, but I guarantee that you will never feel the same way about 'Danny Boy' again, and that's GOT to be a good thing.
American Gangster
I saw this for the first time recently, and what a nice surprise it turned out to be. Based on a true story, it's a heartwarming reminder that organised crime is an equal opportunity employer.
The Usual Suspects
I can't help it; I love this movie, and I have done for years. It's a joy to introduce it to a new generation, even with all the filthy swearing, which should liven up the festive season considerably for you.
