On the Way to Your Funeral

Heading to you
no longer there
the fields and camel-hide hills seem
drawn and subdued,
the road like an offering
at their feet. Every thought of you
stains the country-side, bleeds
into each boulder, every tree
so you’ll be somehow forever
in the calm line of the distant mountains
or the hilltop fence that holds back
the sky.
