An Argentinian sings:
“Although my life is filled with shadows
I don’t need love at all,
I just don’t need it.”
She sings as if the dark were comforting
and she pretends, befriending it,
that she’s home free. She’s not.
The love she spurns
is just outside, a casual predator.
That’s what she sings about.
That’s why we’re listening.
