on a morning like this

 

cloud shadows shifting

retreating

 

sunlight strikes pale fire

from sandstone

and valleys flood purple

deep as bottomless pools

 

on a morning like this

I am moved by the sadness of cliffs

 

how millennia of water falling

the incessant weeping of streams

has diminished them

until only a mirage of mountains

is left
